چکیده
Widespread use of the polymer extraction method for single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and ability endohedral functionalization to alter their material properties make it important examine effect filling on separation result. Rate-zonal centrifugation is used obtain empty, water-filled perfluorooctane-filled large (∼1.45 nm), single-chirality small (∼0.78 nm) diameter SWCNTs. These are transferred from water toluene by dispersion with poly[(9,9-dioctylfluorenyl-2,7-diyl)-alt-co-(6,6′-(2,2′-bipyridine))] (PFO-BPy), absorption Raman spectroscopy follow extent at each step. Measurements made before after (supernatant) but also in pellet. PFO-BPy found stabilize endohedral-functionalized SWCNTs supernatant, a clear preference less-filled or empty species shown. Molecular dynamics simulations model spectrum encapsulated molecules PFO-BPy/SWCNT/toluene system explain why partial difficult directly measure. findings then interpret results obtained raw soot (without intentional filling) view low yield polymer-based SWCNT extraction.

Endohedral Carbon Chains in Single-Wall Carbon Nanotubes
Using a first-principles, local-density-functional approach, we report the bond length optimization of endohedral linear carbon chains. In these calculations, all-carbon nanowire structures were constructed by inserting cumulenic linear carbon chains inside the semiconducting (7,3) and metallic (7,4) single-wall carbon nanotubes with radii of about 0.35 nm. Our calculations show that the total ...

Biomedicine is one area in which single wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) have potential for great impact. However, the toxicological profile of SWNTs remains a significant concern. In our study, we perform quantitative evaluation of the time-evolution of SWNT uptake in mouse macrophages over a period of three cell cycles. Macrophages are white blood cells important for the innate and adaptive immu...
متن کاملMolecular motion of endohedral fullerenes in single-walled carbon nanotubes.
Spherical carbon cages of fullerene molecules interact by van der Waals forces to form close-packed arrangements in the solid state, such as the face-centered cubic lattice formed by C60 at room temperature. [1] Owing to the low directionality and low energy of the interfullerene interactions neutral fullerene molecules (such as C60) are freely rotating in the crystal at room temperature. Contr...
متن کاملEffects of fullerene (C60), multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT), single wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) and hydroxyl and carboxyl modified single wall carbon nanotubes on riverine microbial communities.
Commercial production of nanoparticles (NP) has created a need for research to support regulation of nanotechnology. In the current study, microbial biofilm communities were developed in rotating annular reactors during continuous exposure to 500 μg L(-1) of each nanomaterial and subjected to multimetric analyses. Scanning transmission X-ray spectromicroscopy (STXM) was used to detect and estim...
متن کاملFunctionalised endohedral fullerenes in single-walled carbon nanotubes.
Atomically thin carbon nanotubes serve as transparent-test tubes for individual molecules of functionalised endohedral fullerenes. Aberration-corrected transmission electron microscopy reveals the complex dynamic behaviour of these molecules at the atomic level, and it sheds light on the mechanism of their encapsulation into nanotubes.
